“Creative Paper” at the Dutch National Museum of Printing

From July 4th until the end of the year the Dutch National Museum of Printing runs the fine little show “Creative Paper”, showing what to be done with (printed) paper other than just scribble and print upon. In an old landmark farmhouse in Etten-Leur stacked with shiny and working (!) old industrial printing presses in the south of Holland, visitors will be able to discover gems of paper art ranging from classic origami, cut-out and pop-up to modern urban paperkits. Even without this exhibition, I love the museum for all the big moving, puffing, smelly, almost fantastical and dangerously looking machines from a Jules Verne kind of era when creating machinery was done with pride and creating books was a legitimate art form in itself. You are allowed (but safely guided) to make prints yourself and see a bookbinder or typesetter work their craft. It made me realize what has been lost nowadays where printing seems to be reduced to ordering books as cheap as possible online from some anonymous factory in cheap-laboured China.

“Creative Paper” tries hard to inspire a new generation in showing the beauty in paper as it still can be found today, but especially the context makes the trip worth wile.

ABC Urban Arts Festival Amsterdam

Saturday June 26 all summer-afternoon 3Eyedbear and his friends from StraatPapierHollandKlik will give acte de présence at the ABC Urban Arts Festival at the Spui-square in Amsterdam. Together with Matthijs -Grumm- Kamstra, 3Eyedbear will give a workshop and sign the new art-book on papertoys: We Are Papertoys. Come say hello

Rodrigo del Papel, exposition

From March 30th for two weeks you can see what paper-doctors have done to Rodrigo de Papel, a character designed by French graphic artist Guillaume-Tougui-Pain. The line-up is A-ok so if you are in Paris to visit Le Louvre, you might as well hop into sub11 and check what’s happening in the art-scene right now at Dune Café .

We did a custom too, something with a TV and 3EyedBear-channel playing I believe, but you will have to go to find out, Right?

Rock, Paper, Scissors:Paper Art Toy Exhibition

This month, in the final episode for the Urban Paper travelling show it’s the last time you will be able to see the work from artists featured in the Urban Paper book all-together. Everything will be for sale also, so bring money to the Rivet art-gallery in Columbus, Ohio to get your hands on real hand-made, signed and unique paperkits (and some swag) by these fabulous paper-engineers. Thanks to Colleague-Extraordinaire Matthew Hawkins who brought us together, put what we do in lime-light and changed some careers along the way. Again, this is your last chance to see why.

Paper has always been beating rock, right? So…

Solo Exhibition, Winschoten

In December this year, there will be a little expo around Maarten Janssens and his work for 3Eyedbear in the foyer of theater ‘Tramwerkplaats’ in Winschoten, the Netherlands. December 15, he will open the exhibition at 20:00hr with a lecture about his work after a day of visiting local schools. So he might be a little tired-looking, but please be nice to him.

We (obviously) think the expo deserves a trip through the snow to be seen. Not only did we have to adept the environment into solid cardboard to pull you in 3Eyedbear’s world, we also show never-before-seen work, a little behind the scene-peek into our future and some original analogue artwork. Everything you see will be explained, so even for an exhibition almost entirely consisting of tiny creatures, you will spend more time investigating the whole than building just one small element of it. Do the math. It’s the first time the WHOLE 3Eyedbear-universe comes together like this and to celebrate that we created this very limited-edition package with some random and unique stuff you can only buy here.
If you are still not foaming in the corners of your mouth by excitement, did I tell you that you can write on the walls? Bring Pens! But please respect the stuff that took us two days to build and hang

FabFibe show, Singapore

3Eyedbear has supplied the FabFibe-show with a custom Bear.
Everyone come and see an endless line of custom Lovebears and BoxyBats, all collected and assembled by lovely Nana Roomism at the Sculpture Square in Singapore-City this weekend. Also, I guess an evenly impressive line of fabric dolls are on display, so it’s ok to bring your girl

Urban Paper Show, Kansas City

The Urban Paper Road-Show is getting steamed-up. Next stop will bring a lot of brand-new paper-art home: where Urban Paper writer and godfather Matt Hawkins is coming from: Kansas-City, in the heart of (North) America.

3EyedBear will be represented by the successful Noddertoys all dressed up exclusively for the occasion. Also debuting is this toy soon to be published with Dutch dance magazine Ape: Space-ape.

Urban Paper expo, Pause Tokyo

As you can see the poster is actually a paperkit by itself. If you’d like to build and customize it, you can download it here. Be sure you make pictures of it and post it around. There cannot be enough people coming obviously so tell this to our Japanese friends.

URBAN PAPER: book launch + paper toys art show

Shake hands or get a temporary tattoo August 1st at 20:00 at Subwalk in Arnhem (Netherlands). This show started in LosAngeles and will go to Japan, Italy and back to the States. At this specially customized edition at least 7 designers will show up in person, so if you like to know how that looks like, come by and say hello.
