The Trabi is well-known as the cheap-ass, socialistic, all but unnecessary fancy schmancy vehicle to bring you from pointA to pointB in Eastern Europe during the Cold War. It has become a symbol for what communism was all about, but the car can’t be blamed for the the philosophy of the people who created him. The car was truly the every-man’s transportation and a reliable friend to millions of families. And we, as designers, can bring back some glory to him as a celebration.
